Pregnancy asks a lot of the body. Prenatal massage is gentle, supportive bodywork designed for expectant mothers, and for many it brings real relief. Here is what to know.
Is it safe?
For most healthy pregnancies, prenatal massage is considered safe and beneficial when performed by a trained therapist using proper positioning. As with anything during pregnancy, check with your healthcare provider first, especially in the first trimester or if you have a high-risk pregnancy. Share where you are in your pregnancy when you book so the session can be tailored to you.
The benefits
- Eases lower-back, hip, and sciatic discomfort
- Reduces swelling by supporting circulation
- Relieves tension in the neck and shoulders
- Lowers stress and supports better sleep
How positioning works
Rather than lying flat on the stomach, you are supported comfortably on your side with cushioning, or in a semi-reclined position. This keeps both you and baby comfortable while allowing focused work on the areas carrying the most strain.
What to tell your therapist
Let Kimberly know your trimester, any areas of discomfort, and anything your provider has flagged. With an in-home session, you also skip the drive and settle straight into rest, a small thing that matters more as pregnancy progresses.
